A 501(c)(3) nonprofit · South Carolina

We're not here to fix tonight. We're here to change a life.

Anyone can write a check that covers this month. Next month, the same crisis is waiting. The Unforgettables Foundation builds the things that don't run out — a trade, a home with your name on it, and land that feeds a family.

Our Approach

Help that stops when the money runs out isn't help. It's a delay.

Emergency aid is necessary — but it is not change. A voucher expires. A shelter bed empties at sunrise. A one-time check gets spent, and the same crisis is waiting next month. We hold ourselves to a harder question: is this family still standing on their own five years from now?

That's how we understand civic duty. Not relieving a moment — ending a pattern. So we don't distribute relief. We hand over trades, ownership, and knowledge: the kind of help that grows instead of running out.

Help that expires

A night in a motel. A one-time check. Real needs, met once — and the same crisis waiting next month.

A home with the bills built out of it

Solar panels and biodigesters mean the utility bill isn't a monthly threat. The savings stay in the family's pocket for the life of the house.

Land that teaches

Fishing, foraging, growing, and stewardship are skills that feed a family long after we've gone home. You can't repossess what someone knows.

Ownership, not tenancy

The goal is a deed, an asset, and equity that can pass to the next generation — the end of the cycle, not a pause in it.

What we're actually building

🎯

Our Mission

The Unforgettables Foundation exists to change lives, not patch problems. We build lasting independence for veterans, families, and communities by creating what charity can't hand out — a skilled veteran workforce, energy-efficient homes people can own, land that restores health and purpose, and agricultural knowledge shared across borders. Not relief that runs out. Capability that compounds.

🌍

Our Vision

Communities — from South Carolina to Texas to Colombia — where no veteran or family depends on charity for a roof, a trade, or a future, and where the people we serve become the people who serve. The cycle finally running the other direction.

Unforgettable isn't the gift. It's the life it changes.

🤝

Our Values

  • Ownership over aid. Assets, not handouts.
  • Dignity first. Nobody is a case number.
  • Built to last. Homes and habits that outlive us.
  • The land heals. Nature is treatment, not scenery.
  • Service to those who served. Veterans move to the front.
  • Open books. Every dollar traceable to a result.

Our Programs

Three programs. One idea: build what people can keep.

Everything we run has to pass the same test — does it still help someone after we walk away?

Program One · Housing

Healthy Affordable Homes

Affordable, environmentally self-sufficient homes for families and veterans facing homelessness or housing instability in South Carolina.

Phase 1 — raising the funds to break ground.

Rent takes a family's money and gives back nothing but another month. We build homes designed so the cost of living in them drops to near nothing — and so the family, not a landlord, holds what the home is worth.

  • Solar power on every roof — electricity costs cut to a fraction, permanently.
  • Biodigesters that turn household waste into cooking and heating gas.
  • Natural, breathable building materials — allergy-free, mold and termite resistant, hurricane-flexible, and gaining strength for hundreds of years.
  • Priority for those experiencing or at risk of homelessness under McKinney-Vento, survivors fleeing domestic violence or trafficking, and veterans.

Program Two · In Development

The Healing Center & Forage Camp

A two-acre retreat taking shape in Pinewood — fishing, wild foraging, PlantWave sound experiences, and campground stays under dark skies.

Not open yet — we're building it now.

Housing solves where someone sleeps. It doesn't touch what keeps them up. The Healing Center is where the other half of the work will happen — outdoors, on the water, with your hands in the soil. It's a retreat, and it's meant to feel like one.

What the grounds will offer:

  • Fishing — quiet water, a rod, and the patience it takes to use one. Instruction for anyone who's never held one.
  • Wild mushroom foraging — identification, safe harvest, and cultivation taught as a real, keepable skill.
  • PlantWave experiences — hearing the living electrical rhythms of the forest turned into sound, for grounding and stress relief.
  • Campground stays for veterans, families in transition, and youth groups — quiet, dark skies, and time.
  • Growing and stewardship — the practical end of food independence, taught on the same ground we build on.

We are not taking bookings yet. When the grounds open, stays will be booked by the visit and priced far below what a retreat like this costs anywhere else — with a start date and an end date on every stay. Nothing here is free, and that's on purpose: you come to reset, then go home steadier than you arrived.

Program Three · Exchange

The Agricultural Exchange Program

A working exchange of knowledge, methods, and innovation in sustainable agriculture — between South Carolina, Texas, and Colombia.

Good farming knowledge doesn't stay put on its own — it has to be carried. This program builds the platform for growers in one community to learn what's working in another, then bring it home and put it in the ground.

  • Shared practice — participants learn sustainable methods and innovations from growers in other regions and climates.
  • Applied at home — every exchange ends with the participant putting the method to work in their own community.
  • Cultural ties that hold — carrying out our chartered purpose of building friendly, peaceful understanding between the United States and other nations.
  • Food independence — the long game: communities that feed themselves and sell the surplus.

Veteran Workforce

They served. Then the country moved on.

Too many veterans come home to a waiting list, a form, and a phone number that goes to voicemail. We think a person who signed a blank check to this country deserves better than a queue — and better than a handout.

So we don't just house veterans. We put them to work. Cultivating a skilled veteran workforce is at the center of what this foundation does: veterans build the homes, install the solar, run the land, and train the next crew. A paycheck and a trade beat a care package every time.

Support a veteran today

A trade, not a stipend

Hands-on training in construction, solar installation, and sustainable agriculture — credentials and experience that transfer anywhere.

Priority placement in housing

Veteran households move to the front of the list, in line with federal homeless-assistance criteria.

A home with no utility trap

Solar and biodigester systems mean a fixed disability or retirement income isn't swallowed by a power bill.

Land, quiet, and purpose

Veteran rates at the Healing Center — fishing, forage walks, PlantWave sessions, and campground stays built for decompression.

Ways to Give

Fund the kind of help that doesn't expire

The Unforgettables Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. Your gift is tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law, and every dollar goes into land, materials, and the people we serve.

Both campaigns accept one-time and monthly gifts, and you'll get an automatic tax receipt. Not sure which? Either one moves the same work forward.

About Us

A South Carolina foundation with a stubborn idea

The Unforgettables Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation organized under the laws of the State of South Carolina and recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization. We stand for energy-efficient, environmentally sound solutions to three problems that keep feeding each other: veteran unemployment, unaffordable housing, and the loss of agricultural knowledge.

We were founded on a conviction that most giving stops one step short — it relieves a moment instead of ending a pattern. We work out of Sumter and Pinewood, South Carolina, with partners in Austin and San Antonio, Texas, and Colombia. We are small, we are local in three places at once, and we would rather change five lives permanently than touch five hundred for a weekend.

Our chartered purposes are charitable, religious, educational, and scientific — including strengthening the ties that unite us with people of other nations through cultural understanding and exchange. That global thread runs through everything we do: independence at home, perspective beyond it.

Want to partner, volunteer, donate land or materials, or apply for housing? We answer every message.
